The Descendants

Alexander Payne has provided us a new movie about family members, family ties, as well as how romantic relationships can become so weak. This is a movie where we get to know all the character types, and come to worry about many of them.
George Clooney performs Matt King who together with his loved ones owns a large parcel on a Hawaiian isle. His spouse is in a boating accident and is left in a coma. Matt needs to put his professional life on hold to take care of his two children. He also finds out his wife was seeing another person and wanted to leave him.
Visually speaking, The Descendants is remarkable. It is shot in Hawaii in the end, so it’s kind of difficult to make it look awful. The scenery is practically overly-beautiful even though much of the movie is overcast Hawaii’s green landscapes and crystal clear sea water makes just about any scene visually striking.
The Descendants has been promoted and described as a comedy-drama, and although their is some good comedian moments in the movie, usually stemming from Nick Krause’s surfer-dude Sid’s unacceptable comments, the movie is at some point an psychological drama. I would recommend this movie highly. Sure, it’s a tear jerker but it is also a great overall performance that deserves high awards.
